Quiet Hour

Where the quite becomes words

Hallmark Moment (I Didn’t Get)

He spoke first
A quiet flirtatious wrapped in a smile
A spark he tossed my way
Not knowing it would ignite something in me
And the way he lingered -
Fingers brushing mine
His hand at my back
It felt like a truth he wanted
But couldn't claim
The connection was real
Charged, dangerously close to something
That could've been a Hallmark moment
If life were simpler
But she's in the picture
The girlfriend he hasn't let go of
Even though the distance between them
Grew wide, he admits
I see it in his eyes
When her name comes up
In the way he pulls back from me
A second too late
We're both caught in the wanting
The spark neither of us meant to start
The tension we pretend not to feel
It's messy, mistimed
A storm we shouldn't be standing in
And that's the truth I'm left with
This wasn't my Hallmark Moment
Just an almost, a maybe
A feeling that came too soon
And can't go anywhere
A connection I can't deny
And a line we both know
We shouldn't cross
No matter how much
We want to
